Abstract

562,392. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., ROCHE, A. H., and ELLIOTT, T. W. Dec. 24, 1942, No. 18319. [Class 40 (v)] Instability during switching operations, as when a reserve negative feed-back amplifier is connected in parallel at a relay point' in a coaxial cable multi-channel carrier current signalling system, is avoided by the provision of means to ensure that the frequency of series resonance of the input and/or output transformer of one amplifier differs from that of the other amplifier. This may be achieved by connecting the second amplifier A2 through impedance networks N1, N2 so as to modify the impedance presented to the transformer of the amplifier A1. The networks will generally comprise reactive impedances and in a balanced system may be constituted by a series inductance in the conductor corresponding to the central conductor of the coaxial cable. In this way the effective leakage inductance of the corresponding transformer is increased. The networks may operate at frequencies outside the signal range and only a single network comprising only a single inductance may be used. The Specification gives an analysis of the effect of a parallel transformer and curves of the gain andphase-shift with frequency obtained.
