Abstract
Monoazo dyes are obtained by coupling a diazotised o-aminophenol- or o-aminonaphtholmonosulphonic acid, which may carry simple substituents, such as halogen atoms or nitro groups, with a 1-phenoxyphenyl-3-(methyl or phenyl)-5-pyrazolone, wherein the phenyl nuclei may be substituted by halogen atoms or alkyl or alkoxy groups, but not otherwise. Specified diazo compounds are 2-aminophenol-4- or 6-sulphonic acid, 6-chloro- or nitro-2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid, 4-chloro- or nitro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid and 1 : 2-aminonaphthol-4-sulphonic acid and specified coupling components are 1-(p-phenoxyphenyl)-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and its 21- and 41-chloro derivatives and 1-(m-phenoxyphenyl)-3-(methyl or phenyl)-5-pyrazolone. The products give strong orange-brown to bluish red dyeings, fast to washing, milling, potting and light, when applied to wool by the metachrome process. Examples relate to the production of the dyestuffs: (1) 4-chloro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid --> 1 - (p - phenoxyphenyl) - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone; (2) 1 : 2 - aminonaphthol - 4 - sulphonic acid --> 1-(p-21-chlorophenoxyphenyl)-3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone ; (3) 4 - nitro - 2 - aminophenol - 6 - sulphonic acid --> 1 - (p - 41-chlorophenoxyphenyl) - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone; (4) 4 - nitro - 2 - aminophenol - 6 - sulphonic acid --> 1 - (m - phenoxyphenyl) - 3 - phenyl - 5 - pyrazolone; (5) 6 - nitro - 2 - aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid --> 1-(p-41-chlorophenoxyphenyl)-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone. 1 - Phenoxyphenyl - 3 - (methyl or phenyl) - 5 - pyrazolones and their substitution products are obtained by condensation of the corresponding phenoxyphenylhydrazines with acetoacetic or benzoylacetic ester. Phenoxyphenylhydrazines are obtained by the action of hydrochloric acid on the hydrazino-b -sulphonic acids obtained by reducing with zinc dust and glacial acetic acid the diazosulphonates obtained by the action of sodium sulphite on the corresponding diazotised 4- or 3-aminodiphenyl ether.
