Abstract

Azo dyes insoluble in water are made by combining in substance or on a substratum adapted for the production of lakes a diazotized 1 - amino - 2 - nitro - 4 - alkoxybenzene with an acetoacetic arylide of the formula <FORM:0481290/IV/1> where X = H, alkyl or halogen. The pigment dyes obtained have clear reddish-yellow shades and are useful in the graphic industry and in oil and decorative painting; they may also be used for colouring wall-paper or nitrocellulose lacquers. In examples, dyes from the following components are described: 1-amino-2-nitro-4-methoxy- or 4-ethoxybenzene; the acetoacetyl derivatives of 1-amino-2-methoxy- or ethoxybenzene and 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-chlor- or 5 - methylbenzene. Specification 428,697 is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers to the use as coupling components of acetoacetic arylides containing an alkoxy group in o-position to the NH-group.
