Abstract

560,910. Water-tube boilers. LEWIS, M. H. Oct. 19, 1942, No. 14621. [Class 123 (ii)] [Also in Group XII] In a coiled-tube steam generator, a stack of incomplete ring tubes 14 are connected to headers 15 spaced apart to accommodate a fuel shoot 23 down which fuel is fed by gravity to an inclined water-tube grate 6. Feedwater passes upwardly through a coil 29, downwardly through a coil 32 and then upwardly through a coil 33, from which it is led by a pipe 35 to the lower header of the grate. The water passes from the upper grate header through a pipe 36 to the incomplete ring tubes 14, through which it flows to-and-fro in an upward direction and then into the main steam generating coils 24. The steam is superheated in coils 25. The hot gases pass upwardly and downwardly between the tube coils to an outlet 38. The incomplete ring tubes may be connected to headers spaced to provide openings for the supply of fuel from hoppers on opposite sides to a grate with inclined sides. The supply of fuel is controlled by a sliding grid 47 at the bottom of a hopper.
