Abstract

557,997. Preparing food stuffs. HUGHESDON, W. G., and BEW, T. J. June 8, 1942, No. 16593/43. Divided out of 557,980, [Group XIII]. [Class 5 (ii)] [Also in Group II] A mixture of light and heavy loose material, dried grass, stones, metal &c. is drawn by air suction through an inlet 158 into the lower end of a container 152 which is closed at the top, and has an outlet 162 near the upper end and on the opposite side of the container from the inlet. The outlet is connected to a suction pump and discharges the lighter constituents, while the heavier constituents are discharged through the conical shoot 157 attached to the lower end of the container by a hinge 172 and bolt 170. A conical baffle 182 is carried by a rod 180 suspended from the top of the container by a bearing 178. The rod also carries a disc 184 which acts as a valve opening and closing the discharge outlet 174 in accordance with variations of the pressure inside the container. The device is described in combination with a mixing and grinding machine for preparing grass meal, Fig. 2 (not shown).
