Abstract

557,792. Lubricators. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., SILK, P. B., TAYLOR, R. A., and FRENCH, A. K. June 2, 1942, No. 7476. [Class 12 (iii)] Reciprocating automatic lubricators for the roller axles of conveyor and like chains, moved with the conveyor by engagement with the chain, are also moved in the reverse direction by the engagement of another member with the chain. As shown in Fig. 1, the oil gun 2 is mounted on a carriage 5 guided on a bedplate 9 and provided with a catch having an extension 29 engaging the axles 1. Opposite ends of the axles are oiled by separate lubricators A, B whose carriages 5 are connected by a flexible cable 15 carried by a sheath 16 which is provided with grease cups 61 and is carried above the conveyor by a support 19, so that forward movement of one gun causes a reverse movement of the other gun Each gun has an oil reservoir 50, Fig. 3, replenished from a container 51 by a level-maintaining tube 53 or a hand tap 52, the container being mounted by beads 56 on the sides of the bedplate 9. The gun 2 is secured by spring bolts to a carrier 3 sliding on guides 4 of the carriage 5 which is mounted ori rods 6 secured by brackets 7, 8 to the bed 9. One guide 4 carries a catch or bell-crank 25 having the extension 29 which is moved into and out of the path of the axles 1 by stops 27, 26, the former being carried by a slide 35 having a handle 42, limit studs 43, 44 and notches 40, 41 engaged by a latch 45 so that the gun can be put out of action. The gun is guided to and from the axle nipple by a carriage roller 13 engaging a bedplate cam-slot 14. Two connected lubricators may be mounted on each side of the track so that the carriages of each set move in the same direction.
