[Class 84] [Also in Group XXVI] A pneumatic pulsator, particularly for milking machines, comprises a piston valve n controlling the connections to atmosphere and a source of suction of nozzles m, m<SP>1</SP>. For preventing 'too rapid vibration, diaphragms d are connected to or associated with one or both ends of the piston, such diaphragms acting as dampers on the reversal action. The chambers t, u are connected by a narrow, adjustable passage 10, Fig. 4, through which the pressure above or below atmospheric built up in the chamber u during each piston stroke is but slowly dissipated. A liner e separates the housing a from the valve n. Annular passages in the valve surface connect the ports k, k<SP>1</SP> alternately to the suction pipe i and atmospheric ports g', g, and also by way of axial conduits o, r to the piston faces and chamber t. The diaphragm d is set so that in the inoperative position the valve is just off the dead-centre position; pulsation may also be started by pressing the pin 14. Diaphragms may be associated with each end of the valve which may be mounted on a milk-pail with its axis vertical. The tendency of the valve to fall due to its own weight may then be counteracted by making the lower members correspondingly larger.
