Abstract

556,767. Heat-exchange apparatus. MORRIS MOTORS, Ltd., DONO, G. E., and GODDARD, R. H. April 18, 1942, No. 5187. [Class 64 (iii)] 'In a heat-exchange apparatus, such as an oil or water cooler for the internal combustion engines of aircraft, road-vehicles &c. of the kind comprising a number of thin-walled metal tubes a connected between upper and lower headers or tanks d, one or each tank is formed by the combination of a tube plate c with a number of arched cover-plates e connected to the tube-plate. As shown, the tubeplate c is provided around its edges with flanges g to which are secured the ends of all the cover-plates e and the outer side flanges of the two outer coverplates. The inner sides of the cover-plates are secured by metal strips i to transverse ribs h soldered or otherwise united at intervals to the tube-plate c. In a modification the separate strips i are dispensed with, and the inner sides of the cover-plates are united directly to spaced lugs soldered to the tubeplate c. Reinforcing strips of metal may be secured to the inner surfaces of the cover-plates.
