Abstract

555,862. Typewriters. JARDINE, Ltd., J., and THYER, P. J. May 27, 1942, No. 7159. [Class 100 (iv)] In typewriters with type-bars A pivoted on a segment B which is raised or lowered to change the type case, the key levers F are connected to the typebar links D by sub-levers E which are maintained in substantially the same position relative to the levers F during the movement of the latter. In one form, Fig. I, each sub-lever E has a tail G engaging a bar or roller H moved with the segment B, the tail G being so shaped as to maintain the relative position of the sub-lever. The links D may have projections D<SP>1</SP> engaging the bail K whilst the key-levers F have extensions F<SP>2</SP> engaging the universal bar L of the ribbon feed. In a modification, Fig. 2, the sublevers E have extensions E<SP>1</SP> connected by links E<SP>2</SP> to a bar E3 which is carried at each end by a bellcrank lever E<SP>4</SP> pivoted at E<SP>5</SP> to the machine framework, the other arm of lever E<SP>4</SP> being connected to the segment B. In this form, the extensions E<SP>1</SP> vary in length to obtain the correct movement of different type-bars.
