554,123. Carbon. MORLEY, R. H. H. Aug. 1, 1941, No. 9845. [Class 90] Carbon black is purified by treatment with carbon monoxide at a temperature not less than 150‹ C. and a pressure not less than 100 atmospheres, whereby carbonyl-forming metals are volatilized as carbonyls. A preliminary treatment with hydrogen, or with carbon monoxide at higher temperature may be employed to reduce oxides of these metals. Specifications 334,190, [Class 90], and 554,155 are referred to.
