[Class 8 (ii)] A gas container is of steel wound with wire of higher tensile strength under such tension as to produce initially a substantial compressive stress in the wall, which may be equal to about 25 per cent. to 40 per cent. of the total change of stress produced by raising the internal pressure from zero to the maximum pressure within the elastic range of the container. This tension is not less than the increase in tension over the same range. Specifications 485,976 and 488,534 are referred to.
