Abstract
553,613. Straining. HARTLEY, C. J. Dec. 4, 1941, No. 15633. [Class 46] In a screen for sewage &c. adapted to be cleared by rakes b travelling on side chains c, the screen frame a, Fig. 5, or a separate frame t, Fig. 1, carries the lower sprockets q and is pivoted near or above top water level on the shaft h of guide sprockets m for upgoing runs of the chains, the downgoing runs being guided by sprockets n, so that the frame can be raised as by cables into a substantially horizontal position for inspection &c. without appreciable tightening or slackening of the chains. As shown in Fig. 1, the bearings for the shafts h,k may be mounted in wall boxes f, s in the side walls of the screen channel, or, as shown in Figs. 5 and 7, the bearings i for the shaft k may be carried by brackets attached to the frame and pivoted on sleeves g<SP>1</SP> projecting from the bearings g for the shaft h. Each cross shaft h, k, p may be replaced by two shat studs or stub axles. According to the Provisional Specification, the screen frame may be pivotally mounted on a horizontal cross joist built into the side walls of the channel and carry all the sprockets.
