553,155. Screw propellers. ESCHER WYSS MASCHINENFABRIEKEN AKT.-GES. July 30, 1942, No. 10663. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1941. [Class 114] [Also in Group XXVI] In an adjustable-pitch propeller, packing for the rotatable stems of the blades is so arranged as to remain in position when a blade is removed or broken off. Each blade 2, Figs. 1 and 2, is connected by bolts 4 to a stem 3 rotatable in the propeller hub 1, and a packing-ring 6 is forced by a spring-pressed ring 8 against the hub and against a flange 7 detachably fixed to the stem 3. In a modification, a packing- ring 13, Fig. 3, which is acted on by a spring-pressed ring 16, bears against the edge of a flange 12, which is integral with the blade stem 11, and also against a removable segmental ring 14 secured to the hub.
