Abstract

553,025. Winding yarns. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS, Ltd., LOASBY, G., and POWNALL L. Oct. 28, 1941, No. 13867. [Class 120 (ii)] A device for tensioning a thread when winding it from one package to another comprises a small bobbin furnished with a number of projecting portions which are of such shape and at such distances apart as either to provide slots, or to form pegs, the thread being passed through one or more of the slots, or round one or more of the pegs, in its passage over or round the bobbin to give the desired tension on the thread. As shown, Fig. 3, the bobbin has flanges 1 and is fixed or adjustably mounted and the projecting portions 4 constitute a collar which may be integral with, or adjustably fixed on the barrel 2 of the bobbin: the thread 6 passes over part of the periphery of the barrel at one side of the collar, through one or more of the slots 3 provided between the portions 4, then over part of the periphery of the barrel at the other side of the collar and other side of the collar and finally to the winding on package. Fig. 6 shows a form with a pair of collars formed by the projecting portions 4, 4a, and Fig. 9 a form in which the projecting portions 4 form pegs.
