[Class 40 (iv)] In a stereophonic transmission or recording and reproducing system, alternate bands of frequencies are selected from the outputs of two spaced microphones by means of complementary filters and are combined in a single wireless or other transmission channel or in a single recording track. In reception or reproduction, the alternate bands are again separated by complementary filters and are fed to spaced loudspeakers. In a specific example, the range from 250 to 4,000 cycles is divided into octaves and each octave is sub-divided into three bands. The frequencies above and below this range, which contribute little to the stereophonic effect, may be retained in the outputs of both microphones and may be reproduced in separate loudspeakers. Amplifiers may be provided on either side or both sides of the filters.
