Abstract

552,363. Vehicle wheels. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. Nov. 25, 1940, No. 16890. Convention date, Jan. 22. [Class 144 (ii)] A wheel rim comprises an endless base-portion 1 and an endless detachable side-flange or ring 2, formed with notches 15, 16, respectively, to facilitate assembly &c. of the flange. In the form shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the stepped base-portion 11 of the ring 2 co-operates with the rim-base gutter 3 during assembly &c. Fig. 9 shows a modification in which the tyre-bead seating 22 is of smaller diameter than the flange-seating 26, thereby avoiding the necessity for a gutter in the rim-base. Fig. 12 shows a further modification in which the seatings 36, 39 for the tyrebead and flange 37 are of corresponding diameters, a narrow gutter 38 (of less width than the tyre-bead) being provided to receive the flange-base during assembly &c.
