Abstract
551,505. Mechanical stokers ; hoppers. PAGE, M. W. FLOOD-, and MELDRUMS, Ltd. Aug. 21, 1941, No. 10693. [Class 78 (i)] In mechanical stokers applied to boilers having a small fire door, the rotatable sprinkler mechanism is mounted on the door and the hopper with reciprocating means for feeding coal to the sprinkler is mounted on the furnace above the door. The rotatable sprinkler 18 with its casing 19 and supply conduit 16 is mounted on the furnace door 3 which is hinged at one side so that the mechanism does not obstruct, the opening when the door is opened. The hopper 11 with its reciprocating feed mechanism is mounted on the front of the furnace above the door. A trough shaped member 12 reciprocated by lever 22 is of such a length that the coal cannot by itself pass out of the discharge end into the conduit 16. A fixed partition 14 depends into the trough. In a modification, the hopper is arranged to one side of the door and the reciprocating feed member is parallel to the front of the furnace. Both the sprinkler and the feeder may be driven from a vertical shaft passing through or forming the door hinges or may be driven independently.
