550,811. Turning. NICHOLSON, V. R. Aug. 21, 1941, No. 10650. [Class 83 (iii)] A lathe or like machine tool has a pillar headstock A carrying the spindle B and secured to a bed E which extends over the spindle without being additionally supported from the ground and which supports one or more tool saddles F, F<SP>1</SP>, fitted with tool or turret-carrying cross slides G, G<SP>1</SP>. A tailstock may also be supported on the bed. In some cases an outboard steady, Fig. 1, may be provided. The construction allows swarf to fall clear of the machine without interference.
