[Class 83 (iv)] A blanking and cutting press has the dies and related parts arranged to double draw successive steps taking place in opposite directions whereoy the overall height and overhang is reduced. The bed of the press 8 supports a ring 11, counterbored to receive the blanking die 13, and a concentric punch 16 within which slides the redraw punch 19 supported by a ram 20 working through the bed. A draw ring 22 supported by rods 23 form a fluid actuated plate 24. The press ram 30 is countersunk to receive the reducer die 37 itself counterborec for the first drawing die. and blanking punch hole. A knock out 33 slides in the press ram. In operation the ram 20 and knock out 33 move down together cutting a disc from the sheet S the draw ring clamping the disc against the punch. Immediately. after blanking, the disc is clamped between the punch 19 and knock out 33 these parts now being stationary whilst the die 43 draws the blank over the punch 15 till the drawing 22 contacts the bed 8. The ram 30 now remains stationary and the punch 19 moves upwardly carrying with it the knock out 33 and redrawing the blank through the die 37. The ram 30 and the punch 19 now return to their original positions leaving the cupped blank, stripped from both die and punch, bottom upwards, ready for immediate transfer to further cutting apparatus if required.
