Abstract

549,183. Pipe joints. KODAK, Ltd., and NOBLET, H. Oct. 13, 1941, No. 13176. [Class 99 (i)] A flexible pipe joint for water, gas, or other mains comprises beaded or corrugated ends 2 to the pipes 1 forming spigots around which is placed a flexible packing 3 of moulded or spun lead, vulcanized rubber, impregnated fabric, plastic compounds &c. a two-part internallycorrugated member 5 being clamped around the packing by bolting flanges 6 together. The corrugations 2 may be formed on a separate ring attached to cylindrical pipe ends ; or they may be formed on the packing 3, the inner surface of which is then cylindrical to fit over plain pipe ends except that grooves may be provided around the inner surface of the packing and be filled with red lead &c. The contiguous ends of the pipe may be cut at an oblique angle so that by relative rotation between the pipes one section may be coupled to an adjacent section with their axes at a slight inclination to one another.
