Abstract

549,051. Lattice beams. INKLEY, B. May 1, 1941, No. 5663. [Class 20 (ii)] In steel frame structures, light weight trussed beams are used intermediately of the main beams to support the internal lining or suspended ceilings in the building, and each beam is of segmental form and comprises upper and lower boom members 1, 2 of T-section, and formed of sheet metal, interconnected by flat or channel ties 3 connected to opposite sides of the web of the boom members. At the positions of the ties, metal filling-pieces 7 may be inserted between the opposed faces forming the web, and similar filling extension-pieces 8 may be used at the ends of the lower boom member which project beyond those of the upper boom member. The boom members are connected together at their ends by gusset plates 4 and the lower boom member may be slightly arched. The lower boom member has a perforated web or may be provided with projections 8 to receive the ends of the inverted T-shaped rail members 5 which support the ceiling-plates 6. Alternatively, the ends of the rail members may be provided with angle-shaped connectors for connecting to the web of the boom member. Diagonal bracing ties may also be used between the boom members.
