Abstract

546,950. Extruding. LOWY, L., (known as LOEWY, L.). May 9, 1941, No. 6020. [Class 83 (iv)] A known extrusion press, shown in Fig. 1, for making tubes, rods &c. is modified so as to produce cup-shaped bodies by backward extrusion, by replacing the billet container 25 and die 26 by a matrix 30, Fig. 2, and ejector 31 and the plunger 14, mandrel 15 and mandrel-holder 16 by a punch 37, an ejector 42, normally held up by a spring 43, and an actuating rod 41. Means 33, 34, 35, connected to the main ram 13, are provided to actuate the ejector 31 and a sleeve 38 and distance piece 39, to limit the downward movement of the ram 13 and thus determine the thickness of the bottom of the cup produced. In a modification the ejector 42 may be actuated by a stationary rod 41, connected through a bridge-piece to the main 'frame 10.
