Abstract

1,166,185. Forging; punching; stamping. KABELUND METALLWERKE NEUMEYER G.m.b.H. 26 Jan., 1967 [26 Jan., 1966 (2)], No. 3956/67. Headings B3H, B3Q and B3W. In the cold forming of a hollow body 14, a press tool is used comprising two opposed coaxial rams each comprising inner and outer ram parts 2, 3 and 9, 10 respectively, which perform two operations on the workpiece during a single press cycle. The tool has a lower ram 2 biased upwardly by springs 7 and surrounded by an outer ram 3 serving as an ejector sleeve and operated by rods 5. Upper ram 9 is surrounded by an outer ram 10 biased by springs 12. The piercing of a solid workpiece cut from bar stock is performed within die 8 upon the downstroke of ram 9 during which springs 7, 12 are compressed. Upon the subsequent upstroke, ram 2 is actuated by springs 7 to push out the bottom of the workpiece and the ejector sleeve 3 then removes the workpiece from the die. The springs may be replaced by pneumatic or hydraulic assemblies. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a disc is deep drawn through a die (16) into a cup (18) and the bottom of the cup is punched out during the upstroke.
