Abstract

546,794. Tanks. CONSTANT SPEED AIRSCREWS, Ltd., and MARSHALL, F. G. June 28, 1941, No. 8168. [Class 69 (i)] Fuel and oil tanks for the hollow wings of aircraft are made of stainless steel and arranged in the wing so that the baffles used to prevent surging of fuel in the tank also serve as internal supports for the wing section. The wing a comprises spars b connected by ribs d, the spaces between the ribs receiving welded fuel and oil tanks f of corresponding shape and fitted with perforated baffles h. The tanks may be rendered bullet proof by covering the wing with selfsealing material which also prevents formation of ice on the wing.
