Abstract
545,720. Springs. FISHER, C. J. July 15, 1941, No. 8940. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A spring control for closing doors, valves &c. comprises a cylinder 4 and a relatively movable rod 5 connected to the door &c. and sliding through a movable abutment 6 engaged or opposite sides by two spring! A, B. The abutment is lockec to the cylinder by one or more balls 10 engaging a recess 9 in the abutment and a groove 12 in the cylinder until the compression of B by the initial movement of 5 moves 6 and detaches 10 from 12. The ball then engages a groove 11 in 5 and locks 5 to 6 with the spring B in compression. Continued movement of 5 compresses A and during the closing movement of the door &c. the spring A acts first, and the stronger spring B effects the final closure. In another form, B is enclosed between a rotatable member in a cylinder and an abutment 6, and A between the abutment and a fixed stop in the cylinder. In a double-acting form, two springs B are arranged on opposite sides of a rotatable member and engage two abutments 6, while A is between the abutments.
