Abstract

545,712. Loud-speakers. WOODS, A. C. Jan. 2, 1941, No. 64. [Class 40 (iv)] The centre pole 6 of a moving-coil loudspeaker is surrounded by an inductively energized tubular member 13 which is closed at one end to form an auxiliary diaphragm 14 associated with a horn 7, 9 and adapted to reproduce the higher frequencies. The member 13 is inductively energized from the coil 3 associated with the usual cone 1. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the horn extends in the opposite direction to the cone and is constituted by the central pole which is made hollow and is provided, with a flared central member. In a further modification described in the Provisional Specification, the annular throat horn may be replaced by a series of small holes connected to a series of simple horns set at an angle so as to spread the sound.
