Abstract
542,893. Shock-absorbers. STATTER & CO., Ltd., J. G., MARSTON, G. S., and HOWE, F. Feb. 18, 1941, No. 2200. [Class 108 (iii)] An adjustable air-dashpot forming part of the automatic tripping mechanism of an electric circuitbreaker, comprises an air cylinder a provided with a small inlet hole e, and an outer cylinder b having in its inner surface a helical groove d communicating with e at is lower end. Adjustment is effected by holes f leading into different threads of the groove d and circularly arranged on a flat surface on which is a rotatable disc g having a hole g' which can be registered with the appropriate hole f The usual arrangement is provided for enabling the quick return of the piston c. In Fig. 2, the groove a is spirally arranged on the outer face of the cylinderboss against which is clamped a disc q having the apertures q<SP>1</SP>. The rotatable disc r has holes s cooperating with the respective holes q<SP>1</SP>. A further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) has relativelyrotatable cylinders with grooves of different pitch on the facing cylindrical surfaces. In a modification of Fig. 1, the outer cylinder has threaded engagerrent with the inner cylinder whereby the holes f can be made to register with a greater or lesser number of threads of the groove.
