Abstract
542,470. Cam mechanism. BISHOP TRANSMISSION CO., Ltd., and LEESE, H. July 4, 1940, No. 11238. [Class 80 (iii)] Relates to gearing, particularly applicable to the steering of road vehicles; of the kind comprising a cam engaged by one end of a pin or roller mounted in a rocker arm carried by a rocker shaft. Such gearing is described, e.g. in Specifications 223,963, [Class 80 (iii)], 342,770 and 502,036. According to the invention, the pin or roller is mounted by a needle bearing and is restrained against axial movement away from the cam by a thrust plate without possibility of bearing axially on the needle rollers. The rocker shaft 10 carries the rocker arm 3 which is bored at 2 to receive a hardened race 4 for for needle rollers 7 which support the pin or roller 8 the end 8b of which engages the cam. The bore 2 has a flange 2a between'which and the race 4 is inserted a hardened thrust plate 6 against which bears a rounded end 8a of the pin 8. A flange 9 at the other end of the race serves to prevent axial displacement of the rollers 7.
