Abstract
542,396. Grinding-wheels. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd. Sept. 5, 1940, No. 13914. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1939. [Class 60] A grinding-wheel consists of a metal ring 10 formed in the face with grooves 11 which are separated by lands 31, and are provided with metal-bonded abrasive blocks 12. Preferably, tapering, dovetail blocks 12 are employed, and the grooves 11 have undercut walls 13, 14 which are tangential to circles concentric with the ring. The blocks are driven into the grooves by means of a tool consisting of a grooved body 25, Fig. 7, which receives one of the blocks and contains a slide 26 adapted to be struck by a hammer. The blocks may be moulded from a mixture of diamonds and metals, for instance copper and tin, as described in Specification 479,790, [Group V]. The blocks are sintered after the moulding operation. The wheel is rotated anti-clockwise, Fig. 1, so that grinding-pressure tends to hold the blocks in the grooves.
