Abstract

542,054. Grinding-wheels. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd. Sept. 11, 1940, No. 14108. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1939. [Class 60] A grinding-wheel 10 is provided with inserted teeth each consisting of a tapered, V- edged, metal plate 20 provided at the wide end with an overlapping abrasive portion 42 consisting of metal-bonded diamonds, the teeth being inserted in non-radial, tapered V-grooved slots 12 in the wheel. The teeth may be secured by pins 40 driven into holes which are drilled through the edges of the teeth and walls of the slots. The wheel is rotated clockwise, Fig. 1, so that the grinding-pressure on the abrasive portions of the teeth tends to hold them in the slots. The abrasive-bond may consist of the metals referred to in Specifications 479,703, 479,789, and 479,790, [all in Group V], and U.S.A. Specification 1,625,463. A mould, Fig. 5, for applying the abrasive portion 42 consists of a ring formed with a shaped aperture for receiving the plate 20, mould-plates 31, and pressing-plates 37 between which is placed a powdered mixture of metal and diamonds. Thin fillers having a V-edge are inserted between the mould-plates and the ring.
