Abstract
541,866. Obstruction removers for vehicles. BANG, S. H. Jan. 13, 1940, No. 805. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 1, 1940.] [Class 103 (ii)] An obstruction remover for automobiles comprises upper and lower forwardly curved rails 1, 2, between which are pivotally mounted a number of rollers 3 curved with elastic material to absorb shock and sufficiently high as to cover the entire front of the vehicle. As shown, the rails are secured to the vehicle frame by brackets 4 and each roller comprises a covering of sponge rubber or hairlock 7 on a steel tube 6 and an outer coating 8 of compact rubber. The rollers rotate about pivots 9 and automatic rotation thereof during driving is prevented by a spring 11 under compression between the pivot and a bush 10 fixed in the tube 6. Access of air to the radiator may be assisted by the attachment of the frame of the device of an obliquely arranged screen adapted to direct air upwardly towards the radiator or the covering of the central rollers may comprise a rubber tube provided with spaced heavy annular rubber ribs. An upper cover 12 hinged at its rear edge to the engine casing may be provided. The device may be so mounted as to move downwardly upon impact or by operation from the drivers seat.
