Abstract

540,646. Chassis supports. MACBETH, C. April 22, 1940, No. 7194. [Class 108 (ii)] A "wishbone" link for uniting the stub axle of a vehicle wheel to the chassis is built up of two superimposed pressings 1,2 2 of substantially triangular shape in plan. A bush 4 is held by flanges 5 between the pressings 1, 2 at the apex of the triangle to receive a ball-and-socket joint for the stub axle. Flanged bushes 9 are held between the pressings at the other two corners to hold trunnion bearings of a transversal, &c. The pressings may be dished as shown, and are welded together along their edges 11, 12, 13, 14 and at medial contact areas 17, 18. The pressings may extend completely around the bushes, or only part way round. The plateau 24 may engage a rubber stop on the transversal to limit the upward angular swing of the link, and a flat 28 beneath the link can take a jack head.
