Abstract

540,480. Reflectors. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd. Feb. 20, 1941, No. 2329. Convention date, Feb. 26, 1940. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In producing reflectors such as reflectors for searchlights and submarine mirrors, a matrix is first prepared by the electrodeposition on the concave surface of a glass mould 21, Fig. 13, of a layer of silver 22 followed by a thicker layer 23 of copper, applying a stop-off layer 24 of lacquer &c. and stripping the whole from the mould. On the convex surface of the matrix so formed a layer 25, Fig. 18, of rhodium is deposited followed by a thicker layer 26 of gold, platinum, or palladium, or an alloy of these metals. Over the last-mentioned layer a thick supporting layer 27 of copper or nickel is applied and covered with a stop-off layer 28 of lacquer &c. Stop-off layer 24 is now taken off and the silver and copper layers 22, 23, removed by nitric acid or by electrolysis, to produce the mirror shown in Fig. 20.
