Abstract

540,114. Concrete beams. COOMBS, J. H April 25, 1940, No. 7470. [Class 20 (iv)] A re-inforced concrete beam of T-section except at its ends, where the section is rectangular, is provided with complementary rabbets along its edges to enable a number of beams to be fitted together to form a continuous floor. The re-inforcing members are preferably of twisted square section rod tied together as shown. The webs of the beams may be provided with wooden fillets to enable a ceiling to be screwed to them or metal hooks may be arranged between the beams to support metal lathing. Where the beams are carried on an intermediate supporting member 31 they are shaped at their ends and arranged as shown in Fig. 4. A multiple mould for the beams comprises a rectangular frame held together by wedges 34 and removable partitions 38 to which are screwed blocks and fillets shaped to give the beam the desired form.
