Abstract
539,857. Vulcanizing presses. McNEIL MACHINE & ENGINEERING CO. Feb. 21, 1940, No. 3312. Convention date, March 2, 1939. [Class 87 (ii)] Vulcanizing presses for tyres and the like having co-operating mould sections 2, 3 which move relatively to one another in a horizontal plane before the final upward opening movement so as to strip the article from the mould, of the type described in Specification 526,659, have an auxiliary stripping device consisting of a horizontal rod 20 mounted on the lower ends of two parallel swinging arms 21 secured to bell crank levers 21 pivoted on a rod 23 on the end of arms 25 and extending across the mould. When the press is closed the rod 20 lies against the mould below the parting line and in the opening movement of the press rises upwardly on the mould until it reaches the upper face and then moves inwardly below the tyre. The rod is operated by a link 30 frictionally held between plates 32 and 33 pivoted on a bracket 41 on the arm 5. The arms 25 are pivoted at 26 to the upper platen 4 and a limited amount of movement is allowed by means of a pin 29 and slot 28 to prevent binding.
