Abstract

538,173. Composite steam boilers. RILEY & SON, Ltd., A. J., and RILEY, J. S. Feb. 19, 1940, No. 3102. [Class 123 (ii)] A boiler has a multi-tubular section 10 serving as a water pre-heater and a water tube section 8 with an upper drum 1 connected directly to the front tube plate of the multi-tubular section and lower drums 4 arranged below and on each side of the furnace grate. The tubes 3 at the forward end of the drums form the side walls of the combustion chamber. A wall of insulating tiles separates the outer downcomer tubes from the inner riser tubes. Feedwater is supplied to a trough in the upper part of the multi-tubular section.
