Abstract

537,616. Valves. TRIGGS, W. W. (Everlasting Valve Co.). Dec. 29, 1939, No. 33049. [Class 135] A lift valve closure includes a distortable sleeve having a length considerably greater than the thickness of its wall adapted to be distorted by a conical member so as to make a fluid-tight joint between the sleeve and the conical member and between the sleeve and a fixed rigid abutment wall. In the form shown in the Figure the sleeve 13 comprises the seat portion of the closure and is provided with a flange 14 clamped between washers 18 in a recess in the casing by a screwed ring 16. This ring has a flange 20 bearing on a washer 19 somewhat softer than the washers 18. The valve member has a frusto-conical part 23 adapted to engage and distort the end of the sleeve into contact with the ring 16. The valve has a head 26 adapted to be imprisoned in a recess in the valve member by a screwed ferrule 25 secured by a locking washer 27. The upper part of the valve member assembly is made heavier than the lower part so that when the valve is arranged horizontally the ferrule rests on the valve spindle and keeps the axis of the member parallel to the axis of the seat. In a modification the distortable sleeve is screwed at one end to the valve member and co-operates at the other end with a detachable coned seating member.
