Abstract
537,290. Radiant heating elements for furnaces. ENGINEERING & METALS CO., Ltd. Nov. 13, 1939, No. 4020/41. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1938. Divided out of 536,105. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A heat radiating combustion element for furnaces such as enamelling furnaces consists of a metal tube 51, Fig. 3, preferably corrugated and of greater depth than width in cross section closed at one end by a casting 52 having an inlet 53 for a combustible mixture, an outlet 54 for combustion products and a port 55 for the reception of a secondary air supply pipe 56 which extends nearly to the other end of the chamber, which is closed by a casting 59, to form a baffle member for the gases. The diameter of the tubular baffle 56 is slightly less than the width of the tube 51 so that some of the combustion products may be re-circulated. Fig. 2 shows a furnace having the heat radiating elements 50 supported on the walls and floor. The secondary air pipes may be connected to a blower and the exhaust pipes discharge into a common duct.
