Abstract

537,133. Supply meters. VENNER TIME SWITCHES, Ltd., and MATTHEWS, S. J. Jan. 8, 1940, No. 430. [Class 37] Brake magnet adjustment means comprises an adjusting screw abutting against the magnet or a part associated therewith and resilient means pressing the magnet or associated part against the screw to maintain the tightness of the abutment in all positions of the screw. A C-shaped magnet 1 is mounted on a support 2 by means of a bolt 3 and locknut 3a. The bolt 3 also clamps in position against the lower face of the magnet support 2 a yoke 4, which may be a metal stamping, having a downwardly and rearwardly extending lug 5. Upwardly bent flanges 4a, 4c embrace the lower limb of the magnet. The lug 5 is slotted for free passage there-through of a reduced diameter plain end portion 7a of an adjusting screw 7 which passes through a tapped hole in a pillar 8 depending from the magnet support 2. On each side of the lug 5 is a bush 9, 10 free to slide on the screw, these bushes each having a spherical end engaging the lug. The bush 9 abuts against a shoulder between the threaded and plain portions of the screw 7, while the bush 10 is pressed against the lug 5 by a spring 11 which bears at its outer end against the head of a screwed sleeve 12. In a modification the bush 10 is screwed on to the end of the screw 7 to form a fixed abutment while the bush 9 is pressed by a spring bearing against the pillar 8 or a shoulder on the screw 7. The plain end of the screw 7 may be omitted, the abutment bushes being bored out to slide over the maximum diameter of the thread. A separate abutment, such as a locknut, may then be provided for the bush 9, or the bush itself may be threaded on to the screw. In another arrangement the screw 7 acts directly on the magnet 1 without the use of the yoke 4, the magnet itself being slotted for this purpose. The flange 4c may carry a temperature correction device as described in Specification 537,128.
