Abstract

536,771. Street lamps. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 25, 1939, No. 30792. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1938. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] A street lamp comprises a conoidal reflector 11, arranged above and so as to partly surround the light source 15 and project a beam symmetrical about the axis of the reflector and a deflector 20 having a curved surface arranged around a pre-determined sector of the beam from the source of the light, the upper edge of the deflector extending above the lower edge of the reflector, and its lower edge below the lower edge of the reflector so that the deflector intercepts a pre-determined sector of the beam projected from the reflector at the opposite side of the source of light and deflects it into the remainder of the beam. The deflector has a parabolic surface formed by rotating a parabolic generating line about the axis of the reflector, which contains the focus of the parabola, through an arc of 180 degrees. A modified form of deflector 25 is shown in Fig. 6, having an opening 27 behind which are arranged cylindrical deflecting surfaces 28, 29, 31.
