Abstract

536,690. Rotary engines. LANCASTER, S. D. Nov. 22, 1939, No. 30592. [Class 110 (ii)] Hinged abutments 8 are mounted on end trunnions 16, 17 and make an axial knife-edge contact with a rib 10 on the casing. The abutment chamber 2 is closed when the tip of the abutment is pressed by the rotor into a recess 11 and the inward movement of the rotor is limited by a heel 12 and a stop face 15. Combustion gases under pressure are admitted through a valve 27 which is a disc sliding freely on a sleeve 20 and having a number of perforations which are out of alignment wth perforations 26 in a seating. The valve 27 is opened by the pressure of the incoming gases and is closed by the explosion pressure.
