Abstract
536,564. Bituminous concrete. GOURLAY, L. V. April 26, 1940, No. 12921/39. [Class 22] Stone for use on roads is coated first with a primer of pitch and creosote oil and then with a bituminous binder. Non-absorbent stone such as granite, whinstone, felsite &c. in chips passing a “ to 1¢ inch mesh is treated with 1-2 per cent. of a blend of coal-tar pitch and creosote oil and then with 4-5 per cent. of a molten bituminous binder. A small quantity of absorptive filler such as kieselguhr, limestone or absorbent whinstone may be added before and after the bitumen. The treated stone is distributed on the road and rolled in.
