535,357. Vehicle fittings for loading. NORTH, O. D., HUGH, P. G., and SCAMMELL LORRIES, Ltd. Dec. 29, 1939, No. 33040. [Class 78 (iv)] A crane 18 runs from rear to front of a vehicle on rollers 24, 28 of which 24 run in the channels of the longitudinal frame girders 1 and 28 run on their upper'surfaces, A driven endless chain 11 performs the traversing and permits the crane to function at any desired point. The chain may be driven by a geared hand winch 14, or by power, for example by connection to the vehicle propulsion system. Similarly the geared hand winch 23 for lifting the load may be power-driven : the wheeled platform, which overhangs laterally, of the main girders, may be a trailer or be part of a motor vehicle. In either case it may be fitted with jacks 9 for supporting the rear end while the crane is in use.
