Abstract

534,564. Bolting; internal clamps. ALLAM, P. S. (Tinnerman Products, Inc.). March 13, 1940, No. 4746. [Classes 44 and 89 (i)] A one-piece sheet metal fastener for use with screws &c. comprises a blank bent to provide a bolt-receiving body portion with a pair of expansible arms bent to pass into an aperture in one of the parts. It is secured with a snap fastener action the arms being spread into anchored engagement by the insertion of the screw. Flange members or lugs limit the penetrations. The threads are engaged by opposed pairs of lugs offset according to the thread helix or by the deformed edge of a notched circular aperture giving a continuous one turn engagement. The engagement may be such that, as tightening, the lugs cut into the threads and prevent uncovering. Arms 10. 11 of a blank, Fig. 1, are bent to the shape shown in Fig. 3, parts 15, 16 acts as flanges to limit penetration and lugs 12, 13 engage the thread. The arms may be curled inwards instead of outwards. Fasteners formed from strip have lugs 26, 27,' Fig. 6, that limit penetration, or the stop may be formed with lugs 30, Fig. 8, for the purpose. Various shapes to which the arms 32, 33 may be bent are illustrated.
