Abstract

527,340. Locking nuts and bolts. TENNANT, W. J. (Tinnerman, A. H.). April 6, 1939, No. 10814. [Class 89 (i)] A device for locking nuts to bolts on a support comprises a spring element engaging the sides of nut and the support. In one construction, a strip of metal 11 is bent as shown in Fig. 5 to engage by spring action the sides of a nut 15 and a support 12, which is to be fastened by the bolt to a member 26. The spring locking device may be employed near the edge of the support, or as shown may pass through an aperture 23 made in the support. Apertures for the shank of the bolt may be made at 19, 20. In another construction the upper limb of the device passes under instead of over the nut upstanding ears engaging the sides of the nut. In other constructions the nut is grooved for engagement by the upper limb. The device may be reduced to one limb with hooks for engaging the support and may also be made of wire.
