Abstract
534,195. Vehicle fittings for loading &c. GOMPERTZ, P. C. Jan. 17, 1940, No. 1026. [Class 78(iv)] [Also in Group XXXII] Vehicles having an underframe sprung on the axles and a body adapted to rest directly on the underframe in the lowered position, are fitted with simultaneously operated jacks at the corners of the body for raising it from the underframe to load or unload at various levels. In the form shown in Fig. 2 four screw jacks are operated from the engine of the vehicle. Each jack comprises a vertical screw 10 rotated by worm gear 12 carried by four linked shafts 24 driven from the gear-box when the hand-operated clutch 22 is engaged, and acting to traverse nuts secured to the body which overlies a low underslung frame so as to be below the level of the rear axles in the lowest position. In a modification the nuts are rotated and the screws moved axially. The jacks may be hydraulic or pneumatic and may be hand-operated.
