Abstract
534,093. Hydraulic air pumps. GASKELL & CHAMBERS, Ltd., and WEIGHTMAN, J. S. Nov. 4, 1939, No. 29406. [Class 8 (i)] Air is compressed in a chamber 10 by the alternate supply and discharge of water through an inlet 13 and an outlet 12 controlled by a slide valve 15 actuated by a weighted lever 19, 20, which is tilted by a float-actuated rocking member with jaws 53 alternatively engaging a projection on the lever. As the rising float turns the lever to open the water outlet, a cam track on the weight first engages a knob 44 on a lever to open a relief valve 46, through which water escapes if the valve lever 19 sticks. If, however, the valve 15 is operated to open the outlet, water falls in the chamber and air enters by the valve 46 until the fall of the float again reverses the slide valve. The compressed air is discharged through a vessel 30 containing a non-return air valve 36 and a sliding float 32 actuating a check valve 34 to prevent discharge of water.
