Abstract

[Class 7 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXV] The stator of a magneto of the rotarymagnet type consists of a number of laminated U-shaped elements the arms of the latter being parallel to the shaft, one arm being inside the rotor and surrounded by the coil, and the other outside. The inner arms 14 engage a transversely laminated ring 19 formed with the pole pieces 20 and the outer arms 15 carry similar laminated pole-pieces 17. The rotor consists of a number of bar magnets 22 furnished with laminated pole-shoes 23 co-operating with the pole-pieces 17, 20 as shown in Fig. 5. Each pole-shoe may have a magnet on one side only as shown, or on both. The ring 19 is split as shown at 35 to stop eddy-currents. The stator elements are embedded in a moulded casing 29 which carries the shaft bearing, the condenser and the distributer-chamber. The coils 12, 13 are mounted on a cut-out portion 27 of the casing into which are moulded the arms 14 of the stator and are held by insulating discs 30, the upper one of which is pressed by a spring 32 against the cross-portions 16 of the stator members. The shaft 40 may be coupled to a shaft 51 driven from the engine by means of a coupling designed to alter the timingin accordance with the speed. This coupling consists of plates 58, 60 secured to the shafts 51 and 40 and furnished with lugs 59, 61, Fig. 11, connected by blade springs 62. The springs 62 carry weights 64 by which they are urged outwards as the speed increases.
