Abstract

533,923. Thermal switches. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DAVIS, P. W. Aug. 28, 1939, No. 24643. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A switch in a detachable coupling for a kettle &c. is closed by a spring and opened by a safety device arranged in the kettle. The heater 6 is associated with a housing 40 within which a bi-metallic strip 41 retains a spring-pressed plunger 48 by means of a detent 50 so that the plunger is released at a predetermined temperature. The plunger when released protrudes from the insulating disc 9 between the contact pins mounted thereon so as to engage a disc 23 set in the face of the supply socket coupling 14. The disc 23 forms the end of a sliding-bar switch 22 having a bridging piece 27 that completes the circuit from a terminal 33 to a contact 28 attached to one of the sockets. The switch is normally held in its closed position by a spring 35 which is overcome by the more powerful spring 51 of the plunger 48. Instead of the bi-metallic strip 41 a fusible metal release may be employed.
