Abstract

533,896. Mercury switches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Dec. 13, 1939, No. 32115. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] A mercury interrupter such as that described in Specification 533,690 is manufactured by first completely encasing the carbon electrode 2 with glass or other insulating material 8 and then grinding off the lower surface or tip so as to expose a small area of the carbon. The second electrode 12 is then mounted alongside within the insulating case 16 and this is then evacuated, filled up to a given level with mercury and sealed off at 22.
